Project Description
I designed and developed the digital platform for DANUBE PEACE, an Erasmus+ project connecting people and organizations across the Danube region through peace education, shared heritage and cultural exchange. The challenge was to turn an existing branding system and a multi-country, multilingual project into a website that feels rooted in the region rather than like a generic EU project platform.
Key Design/Development Directions
The Danube became both the visual inspiration and the central metaphor: one river moving through different countries, cultures and histories while connecting them into a shared region. I translated the branding guidelines into layouts, imagery and visual rhythms that suggest movement, continuity and connection. The major trade-off was storytelling versus accessibility: the site needed a distinctive emotional identity, but multilingual content, WCAG 2.1 AA considerations and clear resource structures could not become secondary. I therefore kept expressive regional storytelling in imagery and composition while using predictable navigation, readable typography and reusable content patterns for functionality. The design also had to accommodate partner content from several countries, so flexibility and consistency were built into the same system rather than handled as separate visual directions.
Project Outcome
The result is a distinctive digital identity that tells the story of the Danube region while making educational resources and cross-border collaboration easier to discover.
